An update for the work at Durand Road and the culvert replacement. The contractor is still working on the sheeting for the new culvert. They have had some issues with items buried in the area and its taking longer to get the sheeting in than originally anticipated. Estimated time, weather permitting to have this opened back up is mid December.

“SHAKE YOUR MAILBOX”
Snow will be here before we know it. We at the Shiawassee County Road Commission are prepping our snowplows. The force of snow from plows can sometimes damage mailboxes, but the public can get ahead of the game. Residents can play a part in keeping their mailboxes damage-free this winter, and it’s all about being prepared.
Road agencies recognize damage to mailboxes is inconvenient to residents and want to minimize frustrations by encouraging preventative maintenance now. Although most road agencies have policies addressing damage caused by a direct snowplow hit, policies involving damage vary by county. But no road agency is responsible for mailbox damage caused by snow thrown when clearing the roadway. Residents should prepare mailboxes for winter by “SHAKING YOUR MAILBOX” at the post. if it is loose, repair or replace it to be tightly in the ground. Tighten any screws or brackets to reduce damage thrown by snow being plowed.
